A Message from the Principal…
Spring has sprung, with daffodils and kids sprouting up all around us. This is a
wonderful time of the year to enjoy our students, seeing them demonstrate amazing
growth, physically, socially, emotionally, and academically. These really are exciting years to work with children. We are focused this final quarter on finishing strong, preparing our students for success on this year’s STAR tests and most importantly, preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
STAR testing is scheduled for April 8 – 26. Please make every effort to be sure your students come to school every day during this testing period rested, energized by a healthy breakfast, and with a positive attitude about doing their best. Our team efforts to convey respect for this testing process are very important. We are certain that our team efforts last year contributed to our positive testing results. Please be sure to reinforce respect for this process, encouraging your students to do their very best.
As always, we have several enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities planned for our students in the coming months. After school soccer has already begun, track and field will begin soon, our 7th grade field trips to Armstrong’s Woods are rapidly approaching, our “Cougars in the Wild” club is planning a service project on Angel Island, our end-of-year 8th grade dance has students smiling, and our 7th and 8th grade end-of-year field days are right on the horizon. I am amazed by the commitment and teamwork of our school community: teachers, parents, and students working together daily to make really special things happen. I love this!
Please join me in thanking Schools Plus for their generous donation of $10,000.00 to support the arts and athletics in our school. I know this support is appreciated by everyone. This money will support purchasing athletic uniforms, much needed equipment, and materials to support the arts for our students. We are already generating lists that include everything from new track jerseys to paint, clay, musical instrument repair, drama needs, and more. All of our students benefit from the hard work and donations of everyone who supports Schools Plus.
Santa Rosa Middle School is a wonderful school. We have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for every day. We are very busy making exciting plans for next year, but are also appreciating and enjoying these final moments together this year. Thank you all for your support. We have happy students here who are learning and growing in a very rich environment. Please don’t hesitate to email or call to share ideas or to express concerns.

I welcome and value your input.
Sincerely,
Kathy Coker, Principal
